| MRI says parameniscal cyst, does this always need surgery?
My knee has been bothering me on and off so I had an MRI last week. It says horizontal lateral meniscal tear (no grade given) and parameniscal cyst measuring 2.5 cm. I have a tear on the other knee also and just let it be but the cyst scares me. I researched it and it says it's rare, not like the more common popliteal cyst (Baker's). I did not bring the MRI to a surgeon yet.
I'd like to know if anyone here has this or knows if it gets bigger or causes lots of problems or ongoing pain. There are no other problems, no ligament damage. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. I woke up in pain in the middle of the night for the first time. It's gone now but that scared me. Thank you.
