Knee Pain from over-use?

Hi there everyone...

I have been having pain in my right knee for a couple of years now, it is located below the kneecap around that 'bump' on the top of the shin-bone.

For the past 9 years my right leg has been doing all the work when sitting, standing or walking up stairs or down them due to an injury to my left foot and ankle that is an ongoing issue, so I believe that the pain is from over-use, but I cannot find anything anywhere stating what kind of injury this could be or what could be the damaged part mechanically speaking. I looked into Osgood-Schlatter syndrome because that was the closest that I could find, but that is a condition of adolescents and at 39 that does not fit me at all, even though the symptoms are right on cue.

There are times that I am not able to walk at all due to other medical concerns and at that time my knee will calm down a bit bit the moment I start to move around again it gets just as bad as ever. I have tried ice, moist heat, TENS unit and gentle excercise (PT style) but nothing seems to work.

Does anyone have any ideas as to what this could be and any suggestions of things I might try?

Re: Knee Pain from over-use?

the knee cushin may be worn down to the bone.A standing x-ray should show the cushin or bone on bone.

I had that problem & the doc prescribed a bledsoe knee brace. That took the pressure off the inside of my knee & I could walk again without pain. He said I would need a knee replacement soon.

Re: Knee Pain from over-use?

Well, I saw a knee specialist and after x-rays and some poking ("where does it hurt the most" "right here, Dr." "here?" *screams from patient stupid enough to point out the focus of pain as Dr pokes and grins evilly watching the patient flopping on the table like a landed trout* ) declared that I have severe chronic tendonitis and severe bursitis...

I am to start PT and next appointment have a steriod injection... ( despite the fact that a medical condition of mine precludes the use of steriods except for life threatening reasons )

No brace, no kind of support, no instruction for icing or resting it...

So... I have a name for it and a quasi-plan of action, but I am wondering if I needed maybe a little more info... like "should I rest the blasted thing???"

Re: Knee Pain from over-use?

Get a knee X-Ray or MRI by a doctor that specializes in knee problems.
