| chipped patella
I landed directly on my kneecap when I was gracefully trying to get off the exercise ball. It hit the hard floor. My knee appeared bruised and swelled up. I went home that night and iced it. I could walk on it fine and still can. When the swelling went down, noticed the feeling like a chunk had been taken out of my knee cap. Being kind of unnerved by it, I called and made an appointment with the doctor. I was x-rayed and thats when I she told me I chipped my knee cap. She was going to have the radiologist measure the size of it and contact me in the middle of the week (which was last week). I sounded like I might have to go to an orthopedist. So a week goes by and I hear nothing, so I call the office. The doctor wasn't there, so they were going to pull my chart and have her look at it when she was in. Monday goes by, nothing. I called again today.
Someone puts me on hold and gets my chart. The person over the phone and reads it to me all in medical ease. Granted I grew around it and work in healthcare, I still need it in layman's terms. Basically the jist of it was was telling me what I already know which is that I did not break my patella. I ask what the course of treatment would be. I didn't really get much of an answer. I hung up rather frustrated. I told them I would start running again and I didn't get any disagreement. I'm not experienced in this type of injury and I have some questions. Should I follow up with the doctor? Should I get another opinion? Does the bone grow back? What about the piece that's chipped off? Where did it go and should I be concerned? Can continue my usual exercise activity? Anyone who has experienced a direct blow on top of the patella?
