Knee & Feet Pain - No answers from doctors

Hi,

Since April I noticed my knees started to hurt equally in both. It feels swollen but doesn't look like it. I used to run a lot and assumed it was just sore. It has never gone away and progressively my feet started to have the same feelings. Feels swollen and sore all the time, equally on both sides, almost like I just got done running.

Went to doctor, got blood tests, negative. Went to knee doctor for x-ray. Nothing there. Took anti-inflammatory by prescription (nothing). Went to Physical therapist, got a little better, but mostly just stretching, flexibility. Went to Rheumotologist, and negative on all blood tests for arthritis.

What do I do now? Is this the mysterious "chronic pain" thing. The worst feeling is that I can't stand up for more than a few minutes. I can't sit with my knees crossed. Hurts all day long. And above all, it wakes me up at night. Feet are on fire. Any ideas where I should turn?

I should note my profession is a graphic designer, I sit all day long. I stretch a lot, i'm only 25 years old. I'm thin. No arthritis in the family, eat extremely healthy. Take in a lot of omega-3 foods.

Re: Knee & Feet Pain - No answers from doctors

Have you gone to and Orthopedic Surgeon, you said knee doctor, is this what you meant? If so have you went back, to see what the next step is? Burning in feet, especially around the area where the heel and arch meet is usually Plantar Fasciitis, which is incredibly painful but can be helped with arch support inserts and cortisone injections. This condition can be caused by overcompensation or being off on your "gait" because of knee pain. Have your docs tested you for autoimmune disorders or Lymne Disease? I would definitely request a Lyme Disease test to rule that out.

Re: Knee & Feet Pain - No answers from doctors

Sorry, took so long to respond. Was supposed to email me when I received a response. I have gone to see an Orthopedic Surgeon. I got X-rays which were fine and he said no need for an MRI. Saw physical therapist and he said the same. I even asked "should I go back to ortho" and I keep being told I'm not a surgical candiate. I tested negative for RA (arthritis). Could it possibly be a neurological problem? My feet don't hurt as much as they feel swollen, numb, tingle. It's all the time, wakes me up at night. I'm not sure what to do next.

I would try a Podiatrist, since it's more your feet or foot than knee. That's their specialty and they should be able to tell if it's a true foot problem, or a neurological problem. Let us know what you decide.

Re: Knee & Feet Pain - No answers from doctors

Try to find a podiatrist that comes highly recommended. The first one that I went to (just picked him off the in-network list) left a lot to be desired. I hate to speak poorly of someone, but he just was no help at all. I have had such conflicting advice over the last year about my plantar fasciitis, it's hard to know who to believe.
