Hi everyone well ive had my date through for the op ...Monday 15th december at the Havorfordwest Hospital in West wales UK I am a 44 yr old male whos had hip trouble for about 10 yrs now and finally im going to get it sorted ....They hav informad me I will be in hosp on the monday, have the op on tuesday, be up and about doing little things on the Wed and hopefully home on the saturday morning all being well.....Although i am relieved i must admit to be getting a little bit nervous now as the date draws nearer especially the DVT implications as I have had one of these before in my twenties which no one could tell me why I got as I was a very active sporty sort of bloke . But hey ho no use worrying about stuff eh isnt that what they tell you.........WELL IT DONT WORK lol
Good Luck! DVT is a concern, but they make you wear anti-embolism stockings for a while after the surgery. That plus walking as much as you can after surgery will help avoid any problems.
Well what a bloody fiasco that was ...just shows why the NHS gets such a bad name...Arrived At hospital at 8.30 this morning for pre assesment clinic to go through all procedures (ie anathsetic, physio, the op,after care etc) had my x ray went to see first nurse who did a bit of talkin then we asked "any idea when im having the op" she did a bit of ringing then came off the phone to say "Good News your in on 9th Dec for op following day" great I thougt all over for xmas....but then when we went in to see surgeon he looked at my notes and told me the Blood Test I had in JULY of this year wasnt done right and would need doing again today so Op will be postponed as the Blood has to be sent to cardiff for special test to do with DVD ...so as you can all imagine I am a LITTLE ****** off to say the least
What a drag! When I went for my pre-op, I had to walk from one end of the hospital complex to the other with forms, going from department to department for various things. I know that you can't avoid this in large, metropolitan hospitals, but I also shook my head thinking of all the nearly incapacitated hip and knee patients who had to take the same painful walk around. I had to take pain killers when I was done for the day!
Anyway, the operation will be worth it and you will be glad when you are finally pain free.
