meniscus tear

I had surgery to repair a bad transverse lateral and medial tear in left knee about 4 months ago. All of a sudden everytime I straighten my left leg I get a sharp pain on the inside of knee, anybody else have this problem? Doctor said that due to removing 3/4 of both meniscal cartilages, I will wear the cushion away and in a couple of years I will have nothing but bone on bone and will need a knee replacement. What would be causing the popping and pain now
