Question Question about bone marrow in a THR

In a THR can the bone marrow in the hip bone that was removed be donated to some one who needs a bone marrow transplant? Because I may be facing a hip replacement on my right hip. I have a replacement already on my left and i didn't think to ask when my left hip was replaced, now I'm wondering.

Re: Question about bone marrow in a THR

I don't think so. I remember asking my doctor if the hip replacement would affect the leg bone and he said something to the effect that any bone marrow lost wouldn't affect the leg. So, I got the impression either that volume wasn't significant enough to affect anything, so would assume it wouldn't be enough to harvest for a donation. But, I'll admit, I'm guessing on this.
