Unhappy Knee pain...again!!!!!

Hi everyone! I am 29 years old, and over the past 10 years, I have had 5 arthroscopic knee surgeries (1 on left, 4 on right). All have been for synovitis, and the last surgery also had a lateral release. This was done in September '04. My left knee was first (in '98), and has been great ever since then!!!!
I woke up a couple days ago and everything was fine. As the day went on, my left knee started hurting. I didn't think too much about it, but it continued to get worse. I got home for work (I teach), and the knee was swollen. I have been in a LOT of pain since then, and have done all the things my orthopaedic doctor would tell me to do (RICE), but nothing has worked. I made an appointment to see him next Wednesday.
Has anyone ever had recurring synovitis??? I did not injure my knee in any way, did not fall, did not hit it...this is the only thing that comes to mind. What causes synovitis to return, and is there anything to prevent it? Any information or advice would be greatly appreciated!!!!!!!!

Re: Knee pain...again!!!!!

I would suggest you consult a rheumatologist. Your recurring synovitis just might be inflammatory in nature...Like rheumatoid or one of the other inflammatory diseases. In which case, all the scoping will just make things worse. You need medical management.

I've had 8 scopes, 3 open joint surgeries and bi-lateral replacements all from osteo. Trust me, a rheumatologist is far better at managing even osteo than an ortho is. Give it a try!

Jenny
