Is rooster comb injection in joint to replace cartilege in the hip joint? Dr Jarrett at Strand Orthropedic Consultants, Myrtle Beach, SC has given the comb injection in knees.

Re: No cartilage in right hip

Hyaluronic acid injections (Hyalgan, Synvisc, Supart) are made from rooster combs. They are used to treat osteoarthritis of the knee. And, at time of my surgery (7 months ago), my surgeon told me that synvisc wasn't effective in replacing cartilage for hips.

Re: No cartilage in right hip

Hi Gladys- there is also something called Proliferant Therapy or Prolotherapy that you should look up- The Russians have been using it for years. American doctors prefer steroids even though Prolotherapy is much cheaper and mroe effective. I got up to six months relief of no pain after a series of injections- over a five week period.
