Dislocated THR after 10 years - Knee & Hip Problems Message Board

I had a dislocated THR about 4 weeks ago. It took two attempts before they could get it back in. Had it checked out by surgeon who did the operation and he says it looks good to him. The replacement was done on my left hip almost 10 years ago. My left thigh, leg and foot are very very swollen. Has anyone had this happen to them. Wondering how long this will continue. Leg is tender but no extreme pain. Also some swelling in my right foot and leg.

I'm assuming you had revision surgery? If so, it was probably a bit more traumatic than your original replacement surgery.

Swelling is normal and you should try elevating your legs often. Too, never hesitate to call your surgeon's office with any concerns.

I had no revision surgery unless just putting the disocated ball back in the socket. I was sedated twice while they attempted to rotate the leg to return ball to socket.

Do you know what caused it to dislocate? Did you fall or somehow turn leg. I was recently told that it would be pretty difficult to dislocate (but no one said it would be impossible). I'm 7months, almost 8 months from my surgery and things are ok. But, I've been very conservative. Maggie

I had the hip replacement about 10 years ago and this is the first time it has happened. I went to the surgeon who did the surgery and he took x-rays. He says he can see no reason why it came out. I just started to turn on that leg and the hip dislocated. Never had happened before.
