Painful Hips - Knee & Hip Problems Message Board

I'm hoping someone out there can help me. For about the past four-five months I've had severe stiffness and pain in both hips. The pain also goes down in my groin area. The pain is much worse when I stand up from sitting and I have to take a few small steps before it calms down. For the past couple of days I've noticed by right leg hurting just above the knee on the inside too. I've had x-rays and bloodwork done for osteo and rheumatoid arthritis, but all came back negative. I am a teacher and am on my feet all day, but have been for more than a year now and this stiffness and pain didn't start until awhile ago. I stretch every single day, so it's not that my muscles are tight - the pain feels like it is in the bone. Has anyone else experienced anything similar? I'm not sure what to do next now that I know it's not arthritis. Thanks for your help!

I had the same pain it started about 5 years ago. I thought it was a pulled groin muscle on both sides. I went to my doctors about 6 times before finally referring me to a specialist. The specialist then took x-rays of my hips, it showed i was born with shallow hip sockets, this can cause early osteoarthritis of the hip. I have an appt in Boston in November to discuss getting a total hip replacement i'm only 27...so it's a bummer. but your symtoms sound similar to mine. I would definatly get an xray of your hips to it rule out. Good luck.

Hi Tina: I had the exact same symptoms for years and X-ray of both hips showed osteoarthritis. Did you see an Orthopedist?
