Re: Had scope, need help w/results
I was bone to bone at age 24 before I even got married, let alone kids. But back then(1974) there was nothing they could do about it. They told me I needed a total knee replacement but couldn't have one until I was 40...thanks for nothing doc!
So I toughed it out and had both knees replaced at 47. Would I have a cartilage procedure done if it had been available.....you bet I would. If you think you hurt now, it will only get worse. I was a miserable mother, always in pain. If you think down time with 2 kids now is tough, wait until you try to reason with a teenager when you hurt so bad you are considering suicide. When my knees were replaced, my husband thanked my ortho for the personality transplant......I was that miserable to live with.
Children can learn to deal with you on crutches much better than learning to deal with you in chronic pain. Chronic pain changes you and them.
The odds may not be that great but I've been where you are heading if you don't do anything and I wouldn't go there for anything in the world. My 11 year old knees are just starting to hurt again and I plan to have revisions sooner rather than later. I don't want my granddaughter to know her "Nana" as a chronic pain person.
Think hard before you reject the possibilities. A TKR has lots of down time too and each time they have to revise it you lose more function so doing that too young is a danger as well. I'd at least try something.
