Question acl partial or full tear? Help please!

Knee collapsed playing badminton, I went to a physio who thought I had damaged cartilage but sent me for an MRI to rule out ACL damage. While waiting for the results, about a month after the first injury, my knee collapsed again, this time while I was simply standing still! The MRI came back showing a likely partial thickness ACL tear and possibly a small tear of the medial meniscus. Went to my physio who reckoned I hadnt done any more damage to the ligament with the second collapse and advised me to speak to a surgeon to get his opinion. The surgeon examined my knee and said that he was 110% sure I had a complete tear of the ACL. I am pretty active and on the basis of his opinion had decided to have surgery in 4 weeks time. Today, though, I went to a sports injury therapist to start pre op work on my knee and get some strengthening exercises in order to help rehab after surgery, and he said that he reckoned my ACL was NOT fully torn, it was probably only a small tear and he would not have thought surgery was necessary. He said I had problems with my medial ligament (first time anyone mentioned this!) How do I know who is right? I have 3 different opinions and its very confusing

I would go with the specialist over a therapist. I would say is no one knows for sure till your knee is scoped. First hand look at the damage. sometimes the MRI are not clear enough and show the full extent of damage. You should know something by the pain your in. Is it worth you having a surgery? Your medial ligament is in a different area then the ACL. Where does it hurt?

Re: acl partial or full tear? Help please!

my son had a similar confusion and he went for arthroscopy.
it has been confirmed that he has a major tear and now he would be going for
ligament reconstruction surgery.
