Hip, groin and pubic bone pain: cannot sit down.

Hi,18 months ago i had pain in my left hip, after avoiding lying on it etc the pain also occured in my left hip.My GP said mild Arthritis, but the pain wasnt mild. I saw a ortho consultant who Diagnosed Hip bursitis,2 months of physio later the pain hadn't gone and i'd developed another pain in my butt area that was difficult to pinpoint,it hurt after about 20 minutes to sit down. My ortho said ischial bursitis, although the pain wasnt directly coming from my sitting bones and was near impossible to recreate by pressing around the area. I had a an x-ray and Mri which showed imflamation near the hip bursas but nothing near my groin backside, pelvic area. I then had cortizone shots into the hip and ischial tubeosity. the hips improved they didnt hurt all the time but i still couldnt lie on my sides still, the sitting problem showed no improvement. The otho said i may have micro hamstring tendon tears and to see a physio for massage. I did and the problem all this time later is still there,it was pinpointed to be coming from the pubic ramus bones on both sides. The area caused massive pain under palpatation at certain points and after 6 months of physio the pain if anything was worse.I have had to have bone scan to rule out serious desease which had me worried to bits for a week, but that came back clear. I have just had more injections directly into the painfull spots on my pubic bones and they have not worked either. i'm a desperate man, i drive for a living and whilst i havnt been off sick i've been seconded to another area where i dont have to sit, thats been 12 months and they want a light at the end of the tunnel. My wife and myself have no life together as i cant do anything, cinema, meals out, holidays are all imposible. It's all worse now than when i first saw the otho with just one sore hip, it now hurts straight away if i sit,i cant lie on my sides i have pain coming up from my groin to my abdumen if i lie in my front, and lying on my back causes pain to happen in my butt/very lower back. This means sleep is a nightmare and i feel half asleep all the time,it's getting to the point where at 34 years old i feel finnished. I see the ortho next week but i get the impression he's stumped.
Has anyone ever heard of anything like this?,clear scans of all types yet there has to be something causing it.

(sorry about the giant post,i'm a desperate man,it could have been 100 times longer).

Re: Hip,Groin and pubic bone pain.cannot sit down.

Dear Blakford:
Did all those scans include an x-ray of your hips? That would determine whether you needed hip replacement/s.

Re: Hip,Groin and pubic bone pain.cannot sit down.

Hi,thanks for your reply. Yes the x-ray was of my hips, this showed just average wear and tear for a male of my age. The mri(of lower back and lumbar regions and of pelvic area) showed up nothing abnormal with my spine or pelvic region, just a slight inflamation of both hip bursa. The isotope bone scan of the full pelvic region also was clear.

Re: Hip, groin and pubic bone pain: cannot sit down.

Hi, i'm still suffering with the condition, no confirmed diagnosis. Refered to pain specialist. My moneys on tendon origin damage, of hamstrings and groin muscles plus extremely tight IT band. Multiple issues that require treating, when you break them down they make sense, together everyone scratches their heads. Currently undergoing physio theraphy(again).
Hope your friend has more luck.

Re: Hip, groin and pubic bone pain: cannot sit down.

I see your message is 2010, but I will reply anyhow. I have similar situation.

I have had chonic lumbar pain for decades and was on 90mg of methadone per day and it was doing very good. I got a one day job moving cardboard boxes of paper from one storage unit to another. It was a very hard day phisically, but no big deal.

Two days later i am sitting down in my easy chair and I could not get comfortable. I got a burning in my lower left buttock.

This was diagnosed as ischial bursitis, but cortisone shots, epidurals, mri's and xrays show nothing. I got dilaudid pain pills which are supposed to be very strong and got no relief at all.

Today I am trying gabapentin which is for nerve pain........... I am praying this works...maybe it would be something to think about.

God bless.... Mikeh66
