Bleeding after hip replacement

My 80 year old mother fell and broke her hip. She had a partial hip replacement, which went well, except they cannot seem to control her bleeding. She's had several units of blood. I'm not getting any reasonable explanation for this amount of post op bleeding. I know it's only been 3 days but I'm very concerned. She can't get out of bed and begin exercising until the bleeding is under control. Has anyone experienced this problem and can give me some explanation or reassurance that this is normal. Thanks for your advice.
