Extreme hip pain after back fusion

I had my back fused on Jan. 25th 2011 L4,5 and S1. Now I am experiencing major pain in both my hips when I walk. Anyone have ant thoughts, ideas, or opinions?

Re: Extreme hip pain after back fusion

I did develop hip bursitis after one of my back surgeries. My spine surgeon explained it was the way I was positioned on the operating table.

Also, for your fusion did they take any bone from your hip for the fusion? If so that pain is long lasting and "deep". Sometimes they do fusions with bone only or a combo of bone and hardware or hardware and bone protein.

Re: Extreme hip pain after back fusion

My doc frind mentioned bursitis and yes I had that soooo painful hip bone graph however this hip pain is way different. I m taking low dose percocet for phantom back pain but the meds do nothing for my hips. Any idea what meds someone would take for Bursitis? I had a post. and ant. cage fusion of L$% and S1, the awful pain is gone Im left with nerve pain that my doc calls phantom pain. Compared to pre surgery my pain level is a 6 I was in a bad way before the fusion thats why Im freaking out about my hips. THANK YOU FOR RESPONDING I WILL GOOGLE BURSITIS Good Luck to you....Linda
