Knee replacement -too young?

Have been suffering bad knees for years now, had arthroscopy about 5/6 years ago and doc just confirmed its osteo arthritis. Was sent for 6 sessions of physio and now been told by doc they can't do any more. Doc says she cant put me forward for TKO as I'm too young (43!!) although thats whats required. Have looked at paying for it privatly (had small heart attached).
Has anyone had experience of going abroad for ops such as these and what to expect, (they are a fraction of the cost here). As like most people am in a lot of pain and its effecting my work and other areas of daily life. Thanks for any info.
