Question Knee Cap Deformity

I had knee surgery in 2003 at St. Vincents hospital here in Birmingham Alabama. I had a torn cartiledge and they removed my Lateral Colateral Ligament.

Question: Has anyone heard of your knee caps being rotated to the side?

Doc didn't really explain much other than when he released the ligament it went back to the correct spot. Six months of physical therapy was required to get full use of my knee again. I had to wear a new track in my kneecap. It was a very painful recovery.

I now am having problems with my other knee and you can actually see the difference between the two knee caps. I don't want surgery on the other one and the long recovery.

Thanks

Re: Knee Cap Deformity

Maltracking patella is actually very common, especially among women. The surgery to repair it is called lateral release, although nowadays the surgery is only recommended for severe cases. It sounds like your case was bad enough, though.

Sometimes, physical therapy to stretch the lateral ligaments and strengthen the quadriceps can ease the pain without surgery. It's worth a try.

Thumbs up Re: Knee Cap Deformity

The surgery I had hurt bad but once it was all said and done I'm all the better for it.
As I sit here looking at the huge swollen knee that hasn't been repaired I keep thinking do I want to do it again? lol
Now I remember it was called a Lateral Release. Thanks for reminding me.
