| Issue with TKR 2 years post
In sept (4 months ago) after heavy cycling and a lot of intensive standing and walking my TKR swelled and began causing issues. I am sure I overdid it.
For a while I could barely walk w/o difficulty and pain. I have regained some strength and am able to do moderate stationary cycling.
Walking and weight-baring activities cause the joint to swell and become somewhat painful.
Original advice was to rest it and give it time. I have done some of this and done a couple of rounds of anti-inflamatory meds. Walking and weight-bearing activity is still a major issue
I have seen my original surgeon and 2 others. The most recent surgeon (Chief of Orthopedics at the Brigham in Boston) believes the device my surgeon put in (Depuy Rotating Platform) is pinching the synovia and causing reoccurring bleeding; and he is recommending a revision ): He stopped putting in these mobile bearing devices a few years back because of this problem. Now he only puts in cemented devices. First we need to do an aspiration to rule out infection. I do not believe it is infected as it responds to ice and rest and only gets aggregated from weight bearing activities.
I do not want to have to go through another TKR, the last one was so, so tough.
Has anyone had anything like this happen? Any advice?
Thank You!
