I am posting for my husband (he doesn't use the computer), anyway he had arthroscopic surgery for a torn meniscus 4 weeks ago. He is still having pain off and on. The pain is like a shock wave, not the same pain he had before surgery. Has anyone experienced this? Sounds like a nerve thing to me. Would appreciate any info, thanks............
Do you know whether the meniscus was removed or repaired? If it was stitched together, he might still be on crutches, that is a longer recovery.
If the surgeon just removed the damaged tissue, then he should be getting around decently by now. However, nerve issues after arthroscopy are not unknown. I had a numb area across my kneecap for a few months after one of my surgeries, but that eventually went away.
Does he have a follow-up scheduled any time soon? What triggers this pain, or does it seem to be random? Is he going to physical therapy or doing exercises?
Thank you for your reply. He just had a follow-up last Friday, the Dr. actually gave him a numbing/cortisone shot. He does seem to be alot better the last couple of days. He had a pretty routine surgery to clean up the meniscus tear, the dr. said everything went well, no other problems with the knee. I just can't help to think that a nerve is involved, keeping my fingers crossed that he is past the worse of it. Thank you.

Cortisone really not good to do. Only mask the problem.Have xray done to see how much narrowing their is on the surgery side.Therapy next,I hate to pay it,But i'm goin to.I am showing narrowing on surgery side.I was running on it,causing swelling. The narrowing is caused by the removal of that menicus,I'm told.Good luck.
Thanks for responding, all I can say is he is so, so much better. Not having any of that shooting sort of pain. Hope this means it is finally getting better like it is suppose to.
