post op from Partial Knee Replacement

first they were going to do an opening wedge osteotomy, then a full tkr, then decided on a uni. They did it last Tuesday and so far I am pleased. I spent four hours in surgery I think. the next three days in the hospital for pain management and PT, was sent home two days ago and started walking with a cane today. Hate the walker. The pains still gets really bad if I play Superman and forget pills... I have an amazing boyfriend and son who knock themselves out to help me and make sure I don't over-do things. He even chopped my meat for me today because I forgot pain pills and didn't have the energy to smoosh my taters.
At less that one week out I am pleased and making significant progress daily. Pain is still a major issue but I expected it and was mentally prepared. I also pooped for the first time in six days today, so I am feelin' fine!!!!

Glad to hear you're doing so well post-op. Pain meds are necessary but definitely constipating. Lots of dried fruits, prune juice, lots of fiber, and colace if necessary.

today was a bundle of fun, I thought I would be a genius and cut back on pain medicine. Maybe not. I slept most of the day and woke to pretty nasty pain. I dealt with it for a few hours and went back to perky. Oh well.

Try to stay one a schedule for at least two weeks post-op. Then, if you are taking every four hours, stretch that time to five hours, then on to six hours after another week or two. There's no contest for living through post-op pain... Just be honest with your doctors about how much you're taking and how often.

Hope you are feeling better!

I am trying to wean off my Percocet By cutting half to quarter is that good or did you have better luck stretching time in between pills out

I always have such a hard time cutting pills; they tend to break and turn into a disgusting powder on me. Whichever method works for you, to allow you to remain pain free but take less medication. By the way, some pills shouldn't be cut, and this information is included in the prescription information that the pharmacist gives you. I think that there is usually a warning label on the bottle, too.

You can also ask your doctor for a smaller dose or for a different medication, less potent than Percocet.
