Hip pain

Im 22, active, and have no pre existing medical conditions. About 2 years ago I fell on my right butt cheek. The pain went away 2 weeks later, but progressively came back worse. My hip has a time schedule of its own. It will hurt about 12 hours after taking aleeve. It hurts when walking or sleeping. Stretching doesnt help. It becomes very painful if i dont take anything, to the point where I cant walk or sleep. When I take aleeve, it goes away about 90%. Ive seen a chiropractor and a doctor with no success. Please help!

Re: Hip pain

Hi there -- welcome! Is your pain still in the butt cheek? If so, it's probably not in the hip joint itself, even though we tend to think of this entire area as the "hip". Have you tried icing? Until you know what's wrong, stretching could actually aggravate matters, but ice, 15 minutes per hour, with fabric between your skin and the ice, will almost always help. I would also avoid the chiropractor until you have a diagnosis.

It's possible that you might have irritated a nerve or bruised your SI (sacroiliac) joint. It's late here, and I am struggling to come up with more ideas. What type of doctor did you go to? What types of in-office testing did he perform? Did he send you for any imaging studies? What did they show? Did the chiropractor have a diagnosis or any feedback? (I was always told my joints were "stuck" which is an unacceptable diagnosis, to me.)

Re: Hip pain

I was also told my SI joints were locked up. I went for months, no help. The doctor moved my leg around a bit to test mobility? He said it could bursitis. The pain begins just bellow and behind the hip socket. I have no weakness or issues other than the pain. Thank you for your reply! When I fell, I may have landed more so on my side. Its hard to say because my whole leg hurt instantly.

Re: Hip pain

When the doctors are moving the around, they are also, usually, watching your face for pain. If you leg guards certain motions, or if you have pain with certain motions, the doctor will get some clues as to the source of your pain. Did you tell your doctor about the sudden pain all the way down your leg? That sounds like a nerve injury (much like when you hit your "funny bone"), though you could have hurt more than one thing. Did the doctor give you any diagnosis?
