Medial menicus tear

I have an appt to see my dr so he can make a recommendation for an ortho. My medial meniscus in my right is torn all the way through, and has been for about 2 yrs. Now, I'm in quite a bit of pain and my knee don't perform like it should. It has taken me this long because of having no ins. Now my medicare kicked in on Dec. 1st. Thank God!!

Q. how long is recovery for that kind of surgery?

thanks

Re: Medial menicus tear

If they remove the torn part, the recovery is quicker. Full recovery usually takes at least 6 weeks. If the meniscus is repaired, the recovery period is longer because there are more physical restrictions after surgery. I hope this helped.

Re: Medial menicus tear

I saw my dr today, I should have my referral soon. She's told me that she was going to hopefully ask them to see me asap, because of the pain etc.

Re: Medial menicus tear

Thanks, I hope so too. My dr told me yesterday to keep wearing my brace and using my cane. I got more pain meds.

I"m getting cold feet now!

Re: Medial menicus tear

The surgeon should be able to help you with this issue. Meniscus tears are fairly common.

Re: Medial menicus tear

I was reading my dr's report etc., and I forgot that they said I had mcl strain too. I don't really know what that is! LOL

Re: Medial menicus tear

I've had that. It just means that the medial collateral ligament is stretched or slightly torn. That heals on its own. Orthopedic surgeons don't do surgery for that unless the mcl is completely torn.

Thanks. This board is rather slow, not too many replies. So I appreciate the reply.
