Knee pain when walking, bending or lifting

I had been having minor pain in the back of my right knee for about 3 months but I just got back from a week long ski trip and now my knee pain is extremely painful. I was able to ski but walking, lifting and bending my knee is so painful. I have been walking with a limp, trying not to bend or lift my leg. Several times a day, some of the ligaments around the right side of my right knee seem to pop or shift ( a real sharp pain) but then my knee feels slightly better. After a while my knee seems to tighten up again until the next pop / crack. Anyone have any idea what's going on, should I see an OS or wait it out a bit?
