Flakseed Oil? - Lasik Eye Surgery Message Board

I can't remember what thread it was in but, for the person who mentioned that this helped with the dry eye issue, can you tell me a little about how it works to keep your eyes moist. I know that when a person goes on the Low Carb diet, it is a suggested way to help process protein. I would appreciate any info you can provide for me. My eyes aren't unbearably dry but, anything that I can do to keep them moisturized is a bonus for me.

It seems to help. I started taking capsules the day before yesterday. I took one the day before yesterday, 2 yesterday and, I haven't had one today yet but, since yesterday, the dryness has gotten better. I don't know how it works and maybe it is all in my head. Or, maybe I have just done some major healing over the past couple days but, I really think that it has started to help. I recommend it. Plus, it is good for all kinds of things having to do with your overall health.

I sprinkle a heaping teaspoonful of ground flax seed on my breakfast cereal each morning. While i'm not sure how it might help with dry eyes, I can tell you it's rich in omega 3 fatty acids, has other nutritional benefits and it a natural and safe laxative as well. To get maximum benefit, you should grind the seeds in a small coffee grinder.

For the dry eyes, ask your eye doctor about inserting very tiny little silicone plugs in your tear ducts located on the inside of both eyes. I had it done, it's perfectly safe and it helps by reducing the amount of tears that drain out of your eyes. I forget what it's called, something like occular occlusion maybe?

Thank you Dawn but, since my procedure 3 weeks and a day ago, my dry eyes have gotten much better. I did start taking Flaxseed capsules last week sometime and, while I can't say for sure that it works, I do know that since I started taking them, the dryness has depleted alot. And, if it is not working to help moisturize my eyes, it is good for so many other things that, I might as well just keep taking it. I have heard of Punctal plugs to help with the dry eye issue but, I don't think I will be needing them.

I got my surgery done almost a year ago, and I've taken flaxseed oil for the last 8 months or so (I didn't find out about it until about 4 months post op).
I'm not sure if it's helped. My eyes are fine after being dry for several months after the surgery, but who knows if they would be the same with or without the flaxseed oil. Since it's good for you anyway, I say give it a try.
