Stable Rx to have Lasik?

Hi everybody!

I have an appt next Wed. with a well-known Lasik Dr. for a consultation. I was just looking at all the posts on Lasik, and I came across a couple that say you Rx has to be stable for between 1 to 5 years. Now Im so disappointed!! Im 25 yrs old and have worn glasses since I was 17. I just had a Rx change about 2 months ago, but only a slight change after 2 years. I was sooooooo excited about getting this done because I have a real problem with my appearence with glasses (vain, I know ). I just have this overwhelming feeling that if I have my vision corrected I would be a much more confident person & have higher self-esteem. Anybody been turned down for Lasik because of this? Sorry if I sound negative, just need a few encouriging words!
Thanks,
Sasha

Re: Stable Rx to have Lasik?

Sasha,
If it was only a slight change, you should not have a problem. I think I read that you can have a change of up to .50 diopters in a two year span. But only your doctor can tell you for sure. Good luck and best of wishes.

Re: Stable Rx to have Lasik?

Sashaannm,
When I got my exam, the doc told me that I had a minor change from my current prescription and I was still a candidate and had my surgery 2 months ago yesterday. I think, like Trinity said, as long as it isn't a major change, you should be fine.
Good luck and keep in touch!

Re: Stable Rx to have Lasik?

My vote is don't push it. I had lasik 5 years ago, then again last year and now I am wearing glasses. Apparently I didn't wait long enough and my eyes were still getting worse. The doc I used has done something like 20,000 eyes so I know its not him, though this apparently happens because he offers a lifetime warranty--so my second lasik didn't cost me anything. Make sure the doc you use offers this lifetime warranty. I could always go back again, but I figure I will wait a few years---something about putting a laser to my eyes every year doesn't seem right
Maybe you can look into new frames? I know since I started wearing my glasses many people have told me how professional and smart I look--weird huh? Maybe its an age thing....I am 28 with a baby face, in a professional career--so it doesn't hurt for me to look a bit older and smarter
Good luck!
Jessica

Re: Stable Rx to have Lasik?

Hi everyone!

Thanks for the replies. I guess all I can really do to know for sure is go to the consult. Its free, so it cant hurt anything to go, right?!? But I have heard really good things about this center, and I do believe that they offer the lifetime warranty as well. As far as the glasses go, other people tell me I look fine in them, but its just an issue with myself I guess. After 8 years, I still dont feel comfortable in them! Maybe I have never been able to accept the fact that, basically, I have a 'disability', as some people call it. But after a couple of months with dental problems (getting teeth pulled!) Im really looking forward to doing something good for myself, that would make me feel good about myself. Anyway, thanks again for all of the feedback, and after I go Wednesday, I will let you all know what he says.

Have a good weekend everybody!
Sasha
