purity,
I can't speak to how far out they can correct. But, two things I wanted to say are:
1. Are your eyes still changing in prescription? If so, is it alot of change? They may not ok you as a good candidate because they want the patient's eyes to be mostly stable for 2 years with minimal changes in the prescrition over the past 2 years. You are still pretty young and, I think I remember that 21 may be the youngest patient they will work on. Don't qoute me on that but, it seems like I remember that.
2. Are you engaged or in a position where you may be engaged in the extremely near future? Poor eye sight is nothing to be ashamed of. If you are in a commited relationship that is about to become a marital relationship or otherwise, your boyfriend or fiance really shouldn't have a problem with your eyesight. That has never been an issue in any other relationship I have ever had or anyone I know has ever had. I can't understand why it would be a problem in yours.
Go see a licensed Lasik Doctor and find out if you are a candidate and then, go from there.
And, keep in mind that even if they can't correct for your level of prescription yet, as of about 3 years ago, they would not have been able to take me as a patient due to the level of my Astigmatism...which I don't recall what my #'s were...but, a little over a year ago, they were able to take me and I can see 20/15 with just a hair line of astigmatism left over. This technology continues to change and improve year to year so, don't abandon all hope just yet if they tell you that you aren't a good candidate right now.
Take care and keep in touch!
