Qualifying for Lasik - Lasik Eye Surgery Message Board

What do the doctors test for when they are testing you to see if you are a good candidate for lasik?
Has anyone ever had Lasik? What was the surgery like?
Could you feel the laser?

I am 28 years old and have worn glasses and contacts lens since I was in 5th grade.
I have 5.25 in my right eye and 5.0 in my left.
I think my eyes are a little worse than they were a year ago at my last eye exam.
Has anyone else ever had lasik with that bad of a prescription? Was it successful?

Well I am 30 now and had this surgery done about a year and half ago. Doctor will ask you whether you have been changing lenses lately, to make sure if your sight is stable or not. You can do it if you havent changed your lenses for the last 2 years at least. I have been wearing eye glasses since I was 16, so I am thankfull I have done it!!!
Well, the surgery was too short and no pain at all but little discomfort which is WAY WORTH IT!!
I could see the lasik, but I didnt feel anything.
The 1st week after surgery will be hard on you since you will have to be VERY careful with your eyes...Do Not touch or scratch them at all. The doctor will also gives you a kind of protection to put it on your eyes when you go to sleep, so you wont hurt your eyes or sleep on them while on the bed. After 2 to 3 weeks, you will start to feel normal again, and everything will be fine after 2 months. You need to have someone to drive you home after the Lasik.
I have friends who has done this surgey and thier eyes went back to what it was before the suregy meaning that they had to wear glasses again, but I also have friends who have done it few years ago and they still living without glasses, so its al depend on your eyes. My brother had to wear glasses again after only one year from the surgery date.
My advice to you is to GO FOR IT. It took me 4 years of studying this surgery and reading about it on the net, in addition to asking others until I got sick from so many different opinions and feedback. At last I decided to do it and here I am happy with my life without glasses!
Do it but choose good doctor who is experienced and old. The net is full of resources about the Lasik which show you in graphics the full procedure of the surgery...search for them, and good luck!

During a screening the size of your pupils as well as your corneal thickness and shape will be observed. LASIK has been used to correct the vision of people with much higher prescriptions than your own

. Once determined that you are a good candidate, go for it and good luck! If not, realise that there are reasons for hearing that you aren't a candidate and that going through with the procedure would bring you ill results.
