Eye Shields When Sleeping

Did anyone "fudge" a day or two on the eye shields when sleeping? I hate the darn things... they said to wear them for a week... I am day 6 post op... and don't think I rub my eyes when I sleep... Any feedback? Thanks!

Re: Eye Shields When Sleeping

When I had LASIK I had to wear the shield for one night. The surgeon told me the eye heals within 24 hours and when I returned the following day after surgery he checked them and said they were fine. This was Dr Maloney who at that time was at the UCLA Stein Eye Institute.
I wonder why the difference in care. Frankly, I liked my dr's advice better....lol but you probably need to check with your dr again, before you listen to someone like me.

Re: Eye Shields When Sleeping

Hi, my surgeon recommends 3 nights. I was going to use them longer...but also hated them, and I'm a light sleeper and wake every time I turn over, so only used them the first 3. However I was advised 1 week without eye make up, but I'm going to leave it 2 weeks to be on safe side

Re: Eye Shields When Sleeping

Wow, it was recommended to me by my doctor to wear the eye shield for 2 weeks (I am 6 days post-op). I was starting to accept it but last night as I was adjusting the strap I snapped the damn thing in half haha. Oops. I've just been wearing my eye mask because I'm afraid of not sleeping with something covering my eyes for a bit.

Re: Eye Shields When Sleeping

I joined this board after lurking just to reply to this thread! I just had my LASIK last week, and the doctor told me to wear the eye guards for at least a week, and I am. I woke up this morning, though, to find them on the floor, and heard that I apparently took them off in the middle of the night and threw them! OOOPS!

I'd love to know how long others wore theirs, too.

Thanks!

Re: Eye Shields When Sleeping

I lurked awhile before my surgery. Had it done on Monday (3 days ago). I was instructed to wear the eye shields for all of Monday and for every night for a week. I wore them home and for my nap after surgery. After that I took them off for the rest of the day and haven't used them at all. My eyes weren't watery or itchy, so I wasn't tempted to rub them.
