Double vision and unclear

I had a Lasik operation one month ago, December 08. According to the doctor everything went ok, but i still have double vision in both eyes, especially in dark rooms. It's really hard to work in my computer since the letters and numbers seem to double and jump into each other. Reading is also still very difficult. One thing is strange: when i read something at daylight with plenty of sun, i can see properly, but inside a darker place, everything seems a bit unfocused, i.e., not sharp. My doctor says that i'm still going through the healing process... but i'm becoming a bit scared. Is this really normal? Does it take so long to see properly? I still haven't seen much improvement in the last weeks which is depressing me a lot. Hope someone can tell me something about it.

Re: Double vision and unclear

I am right there with you, I had the surgery 3 weeks ago everything is better in bright light. My guess as to why this is happening would be that in low light your eyes dilate (grow) and use the lens area closer to edge of the flap. In bright light they are small and no light gets mixed up in the cut line.

Anyone else?

Re: Double vision and unclear

Guys, apparently you don't know this yet but having Lasik is a bad idea alltogether. I had mine three years ago. Bad night vision, dry eyes, reading problems and all that are part of post-Lasik life. I'm trying to start a conversation where people share tips like, what kind of eyedrops work best for severe dry eye symptoms, where to get them cheap. Tips on reading, working, driving and basically just getting along with life after your vision and your eyes' health is debilitated by a surgery.

Re: Double vision and unclear

It's been 2 months since i had my lasik surgery (12th December 2008). I must admit that i have improved my sight capabilities in the last 2 or 3 weeks now. But i still have problems focusing and seeing things in a sharp way. I went to another doctor who told me that i had developed some astigmatism, which is causing me these eye problems. He also told me that i had to wait some more months to see if this astigmastism disappears or not. Is he right? Should i be concerned with my state? Or should i wait peacefully?
Well... i must say that i'm a bit disappoint at my surgery! If i were to do it now, i wouldn't do it... for sure!

Re: Double vision and unclear

Sorry to hear about your problems, Batxico. I don't think your doctor is lying, the astigmatism might go away, but if it won't then I don't know if you can do much about it. From what I've read I got the impression that the healing process varies a lot. You just have to hang in there and wait, you'll know eventually. I wouldn't recommend a new surgery though, even if the astigmatism doesn't disappear. Apparently having a second one increases the risk of complications some and I think we both agree that eyes should be messed with as little as possible. Besides there is no guarantee that you won't develop astigmatism again say after couple of years. ( Like I did)
Try if moisturising your eyes a lot all the time helps, sometimes it can really affect how sharply you can see things.

Re: Double vision and unclear

I feel so much better reading here and that I'm not the only one! I am still blurry after one month. I guess it takes a while to heal...I had no idea HOW long before I did this surgery! I have to constantly put in eye drops, or I can't see. I have an appointment on the 23rd, and i am hoping to get some answers to this. If I'm in a dimly lit room, I can barely see

Re: Double vision and unclear

Yep, mate. Dark rooms are the worst. I had that problem and still have, though i've been better. The transition of a very clear environment (outside environment with sun) to a darker one (inside a house, for example) is the worst. It takes time for my eyes to adapt! The first month was just awful... I'm on my second month now and as i told before, i've noticed some improvements in my eye accuracy... but still not the same as when i was wearing my glasses (how i miss them)! Anyway... dry eyes still affect me and i have to use eye drops to moisturize them. But again... not that often as in the beginning. On the whole, things are getting better, but very slowly... much slower than i expected or as i was told! I know each person has a different timing... so, i will wait patiently!
