My son did this a couple of years ago and I kinda ignored it cause when I work with him on homework - he looks at it just fine. Now at age 11, I walked into his room and he still is holding his reading books (books for fun) sideways to read it. He said it is just easier for him than holding it normal. Could this be a sign of a learning disorder or am I being concerned for nothing.

My 7 year old son does this as well. He said he reads better this way. It appears he may have dyslexia. I was searching the internet for "reading sideways" and came upon this message board. Have you discovered anything since your posting? When my son turns the book, I automatically make him turn it back, so I really don't know if he actually DOES read better that way. Maybe it would cure his dyslexia!

Well, when I mentioned this to the school counselor to see if this might be an indication of something, he said that it might be easier for him to follow the lines. So, we have used a white index card to see if it will help him with following the lines better. We'll see.
You might want to consider having his eyes checked by a pediatric opthamologist. My younger son has strabismus and turned his head at a weird angle instead of the book.
