My friend has recently been diagnosed with t-cell prolymphocytic leukemia (TPLL). She is 42 years old and in good health otherwise. She was diagnosed the beginning of Nov. 2002 and she has been unable to talk about the specifics of the disease. I am only aware that it is serious. I would greatly appreciate any information any of you out there have about this disease. I'm trying to educate myself as much as possible to support her and what is to come. She's currently getting chemo once a week and a bone marrow transplant is in the near future. Please don't hold back--I need to know the realities I facing. Thank you so much!

I'm not familiar with your friend's specific leukemia, but am familiar with bone marrow transplant. Expect a long and bumpy road. If your friend's HEM/ONCs are talking BMT at this stage, it's because your friend desperately needs it. BMT is not recommended for leukemias that can be easily "cured" with simple chemo and/or radiation therapy.
