WBC question please help

Hi guys,

This is my first post, so i'll give you a background real fast. I went to the doctor for a hurt back and they took my blood work since it was my first visit. I got a phone call saying my White Blood Cell count was 19.5 and I needed to come in right away and do another lab. That lab has come back and again it's 19.5.

I am 22 years old, and i've never been really healthy. I took HGH (Human Growth Hormone) for 12 years starting at age 4. When I got into High School I stopped HGH but my energy levels slowly decreased. Nowadays I can't work because I have no energy, I can sleep 14-16 hours straight, and sometimes I can't even lift my head off the bed. It feels like someone is sucking the life out of me.

March 12th I have an appointment with the University of Oncology and Hematology Assoc. so my question is...what can I expect and how bad is a WBC of 19.5? I was told by my doc that I have no energy because my WBC is so high. I received a paper on Leukemia and Leukocytosis so I thought this message board was appropriate. Thanks so much for the advice.

P.S. I have a small family history of leukemia.

Re: WBC question please help

I would think that if you had acute leukemia your platelets and red blood cell count would be compromised as well with that high of a wbc. Considering you are waiting until March 12 for a hemotology appointment indicates as well that it is probably not acute as they would never wait that long if they suspected acute leukemia. I don't know too much about chronic leukemia or leukocytosis.

Good luck....

Arithium,Hi I Had a blood count of 19000 at my doctors checkup appointment and I Had an infection I Didn't even knew I Had but after the infection went away My blood count was still high at 17000 so he referred me to a hematologist just to be sure to rule everything out. Well I Went to the hematologist my blood count was 16000 and everything he said looked normal with the cells I Just had a high white blood cell count & I'm also on Lithium a drug which can raise the white blood cell count also. Hes going to just see me in 6 months & take blood in 2 months and then again 6 months just to keep an eye on my bloodcount. Leukocytosis just means you have a high white blood cell count all your white blood cells are high. post how you make out at your doctors I'm sure everything will be fine and reading lots of these posts helped me to be less scared when I Had to go to a hematologist . Theres people on here that have blood disorders and being treated & doing fine. try not to be scared. Post let me know how you make out. Bren
