hemoglobin electrophrosis

Has anyone heard of this test, hemoglobin electrophrosis to determine leukemia? My hematologist has order this test, but when I asked why, all he said was he wanted to get to the bottom of why my MCV and MCH keeps rising when my b-12 and folate levels are both on the high side of normal. I do not drink and have no problems with my liver. Is bone marrow biopsy the only way to determine leukemia?
