Are false negatives common with leukemia tests?
My four year old son has something going on with his blood right now that the doctors can't figure out. He started out with his white blood count being 86,000. He was put in the hospital and they did all kinds of tests on him, including HIV, TB, and leukemia. They all came back negative. They also did a bone marrow biopsy to check for leukemia and that also came back negative. His white count has gone down to around 30,000. But his platelets have recently dropped to. They are about 35,000 right now. His white count had been slowing getting better. But now it has stayed the same for the last couple weeks. Is it possible that he really does have leukemia, even though all the tests came back negative? I can't find anything else on the internet that would cause these things to be happening, and the doctors don't know either. He was also tested for mono a couple times. I had hoped that would be it, since I recently had mono, but that also came back negative.
