Fatty Liver Diagnosis.

Hi all,

I've had a painless swelling on my upper left abdomen, went for ultrasound and DR says my liver is fatty. Im overweight, and do not drink very often. The swelling on left side sometimes has a pressure feeling or twings of pain.

Has anyone had the swelling on the left side with fatty liver?

I am having some liver problems right now. I don't drink. I did before on occasion. Got a ct scan and waiting for results. Blood work showed my liver levels went up. For your diagnossis, what treatment will you be getting?

All my DR recommended was to lose weight. I have changed diet, and am exercising but swelling on left side is still there.

Did you have changes in your bowel color? I am awaiting results from a ct scan. I never had problems until a couple of months ago. I went to the er with swelling of my upper abdomin and pain on the right side. They didnt find anything so they send me home. For two months I felt normal and all of a sudden last month I thought I was having a heart attack and they said my heart is fine but my stomach hurts again my bloodwork showed liver levels are higher than normal and my stool is yellow on some days and very pale on others. I am also overwieght but have lost 15 lbs in one month without trying.

No my BMs are normal. I'm thinking of getting a 2nd opinion from another Dr. I know I have fatty liver but cannot find anything about swelling on left side from it.

Although parts of the liver overlap on the left side, pain from a fatty liver usually occurs on the right side because that is where the majority of your liver is located within the abdomen.

Usually if it's upper left pain then the first thing doctors do is run an Amylase and Lipase test to look for pancreatitis and kidney function tests.

Ultrasound is very good for diagnosing problems of the liver and gallbladder, but CT is better for other organs like the kidneys and pancreas.

I returned to my DR as the lump is there and am having pain shooting into breast and around back. I am having an CT Scan on June 1st and am hoping for some answers and relief..

As you first described the lump as painless but now you're having pains in your back and breast, that's definitely not from the fatty liver.

Your doctor made the right choice in ordering a CT scan. You can get a much clearer picture of the entire abdomen. Since it is fairly superficial (can be felt close to the surface), it could be a fatty cyst or benign soft tissue tumor.
