Unhappy Hep C and Cirrhosis, and taking Tylenol, need advice

Hi, I have been having bad headaches for the last month, now the Dr tells me it's ok to take two tylenol twice a day for the pain, which I've been doing for the last couple weeks now. First they thought it was from my eyes, nope, so now I don't go back to Dr till the 30th, I don't want to take Tylenol everyday but don't know what else to do. I'm 64 and my enzines were slitly elevated, but he said it would be ok to take them. Help
TIA

Re: Hep C and Cirrhosis, and taking Tylenol, need advice

Hi Green Eyed Granny--
Acet/Tylenol is usually safe to take as long as you don't exceed the recommended dose...even if your enzymes are elevated. That product alone will can elevate you #'s even in a healthy person.
My liver failed (had some unknown problems & added to them when I took too much acet while sick w/the flu over a short period of time...) but it regenerated itself--and now my normal range for liver enzymes is higher than most ppl's--but all 3 of my liver spec's told me I can still take acet...only the recommended dose.
It sounds like your dr has suggested this amt for you...do you have hep c and cirrhosis? Do you drink any alcohol?

Re: Hep C and Cirrhosis, and taking Tylenol, need advice

Hi Gina,
yes I do have Cirrhosis, and Hep C, and inlarged Spleen,
I take Milk Thistle, and Inderal, don't watch my diet like I should, but usually feel pretty good.
Don't know what this jaw and headache is coming from, but It just might be my teeth,
I'm on Medicare and Medicaid, and they don't want to pay for dental, and mine are really bad.
Thanks for the reply...

Debbie222- you're right-they usually don't let you take it if your have cirrhosis...but it depends on your dr and your individual situation. I just meant even in healthy ppl it raised enzymes but that was safe...and it sounded like her dr told her it was ok to take it. I had two diff specialists tell me two different things a week apart-all based on the same enzyme numbers. I don't have cirrhosis or Hep, but had total liver failure. My liver regenerated itself. Two mos later one liver specialist told me I could take acet--and anything else as long as it was recommended dosage--if long term to get CBC every week for amonth after I d/c's it. The Transplant Med Director I still see said no alcohol, no acet, no ibuprofen for at least a yr. I ended up not needing the transplant, but was at the top of the list for a while until my liver began to regenerate itself. (Had there been a liver, I'd have had it.) I have to see the transplant ppl to make sure my #'s are good, etc, and if I do need one they can move me along quickly. So, it just depends on who you go to. I agree--ibuprofen is the best.
