I have heard or read somewhere that liver problems can cause extremely dry skin and dermatitis. Is this true?

Personally I have never read or heard about relation between dry skin or dermatitis and liver problems. I know that dermatitis sometimes could represent malignant disease such as Hodgkins lymphoma but this condition is rarer than general symptoms.

As far as I know the symptoms of liver disease on the skin is jaundice or yellowing skin.

It did happen to my son but it only seemed to affect his head.He developed this really nasty dandruff type flakey junk on his head.i could scratch his head with my fingernails and it would look like a flippin blizzard was falling out of his head.This all went away completely after his transplant was done.Marcia

I've experienced many dermatoligalical(sp) problems. I have been told that they were "most likely" manifestations from my liver problems. In fact, I was diagnosed with hepc because of lichen planus going up and down my shin. I also have the dandruff thing. My skin is always extremely dry and very itchy, no matter how much lotion I use. When your liver isn't working at 100% some of the toxins in our bodies are released thru your pores. Thus the skin irratations. Drinking lots of water helps to flush them out.
