I really don't know the answer to your question. I am, however, in the same boat. I take 10 mgs. Lipitor - and have for about 5 years. Every now and then I will get an elevated ALT figure -- while all other liver numbers are normal. This always alarms me. My highest ALT number was 72 a couple of years ago.

My PCP seems unconcerned. He said what he looks for is a "trend". I suppose he means numbers that continue to rise. I have my cholesterol checked every 4 months -- they always check the ALT number at this time. So far I have always returned to within the normal range on the next test.

Lots of things influence the ALT number - antibiotics, pain meds. etc. So I suppose it could be any number of things that is causing it. Just seems odd to me that I never had this issue until I started on the statin drug.

Maybe someone else has a better explanation.
PS. I might add that Lipitor works great for me. That, plus diet and exercise, keep my lipid numbers within normal range.
