? on high level ALK Phos test

Just had blood work done, AST...28, ALT...54 ALK....166. What could the problem be? I don't drink, no itching, no pain. I do take Tylenol often and did have a major skin staff problem this past fall.Anybody have any ideas? I don't want to freak out about it but the more I read the more I'm starting to.

Re: ? on high level ALK Phos test

Have you actually asked your Dr. about this? If not you should, if there were anything to worry about he should say so.

I can say that Tylenol used often can make your levels elevate.

Mine was elevated slightly, and my Dr. said to cut way down on it and we would check it again in 4 weeks. At the time I had been taking it often, having had surgery and using it for pain.

I believe that is my case, and will find out for sure when I have it rechecked.

Re: ? on high level ALK Phos test

according to the actual ranges that my sons lab uses the only thing that is actually out of range is your alt. at 54,the high end range for that is actually 46,the HE of ast 41 and the HE for the alk phos is 364.but this is my sons lab not yours.some labs use different numbers in different ways.do you actually have the lab sheet? That would tell you all the right info for that particular lab.you should always get copies of any and all testing that is ever done on you just for your own medical records.Marcia

Re: ? on high level ALK Phos test

Growing bones release ALK PHOS, so kids naturally have much higher levels ("normal"). An adult with ALP of 364 seems high, but I'd never rule out test error to begin with. Get it rechecked in a few weeks or months, and if it's still that high, you need to discuss it with your doctor. If he blows it off as "nothing", get a new doctor. THey can do a test to see if it's from the liver or bones. BTW My ALP has been mildly elevated for at least 10yrs for no apparent reason. It is about 10-20% above the HIGH level.
