Question Liver? Please help!!!

Hi, my daughter is having nausea, tons of throbbing, stabbing pain in the right, top quantrant, she is not overweight, has a high tolerance for pain due to prior intestinal surgeries, has never had a liver problem, has yellow in the whites of her eyes, i had some blood work done and she does not have hepititas and the blood work is as follows. She is 17, her pediatrician doesn't seem concerned but I am. The following is the abnormal stuff on her bloodwork. She hasn't had a full liver panel done, just a basic healthfair thing.
Normal TSH.
LYM- 25.0 LOW Ref 30-40
T Billi 3.0 HIGH ref .2-1.1
D Bili .5 HIGH ref .0-.2
GGTP 7 LOW ref 9-64
LDH 105 LOW ref 140-271
Cholesterol 100 LOW ref 136-199
Magnesium 1.7 LOW ref 1.9-2.7
Thank you for all who respond, i know she needs more testing and she is in a ton of pain. ALso her stools are very light in color, and she gets an occasional rash on her arms. She is about ready to start her high school soccer season and i'm so worried she will collapse on the field. She pushes herself so hard. And she does not drink alcohol and is not sexually active.

Re: Liver? Please help!!!

I suggest she go ahead and get her liver panel done. Yellowing of the eyes most of the time is jauntice, usually an indication of hepatitis. How is her energy level? My daughter (16) got mono this last year and had a lot of abdominal pain. The pediatrician said we had to be very careful about contact sports. Make sure you check out all the angles to get to the bottom of it. Can't help you with blood test results, just a mom.....

Re: Liver? Please help!!!

One thing I do know is that when stool is light it means there is not enough bile coming from the gallbladder. Also when bilirubin is high that means there is something going on with the liver. You didn't state what her previous intestinal surgeries were, but is she on any pain medication for it? Any type of medicine will mess with liver enzymes. I would call her pediatrician and get the full liver panel done too, especially since she's having pain. It's strange that her Dr isn't following through with a million tests since she's already had surgery. I'm just a mom too, but these are things I've read along my way. Let us know what happens

Re: Liver? Please help!!!

I'm with the other two posters on getting the liver panels done. Jaundice is not *always* indicative of hepatitis, but it is indicative that the liver is having a harder time removing the bile from the blood. (first the eyes turn, then the skin will turn yellow) High bili levels can itching.(does she itch-or is the rash itchy?) With her bili being high, and her stools being pale(another indication of high bili) her dr should run a set of LFT labs. If she's not feeling better and her dr won't run further test, I'd go to the ER--they'll take one look at her eyes and run the necessary LFTS-and help her w/the pain until they figure out what is going on. You know your daughter and regardless of what her dr says, if 'something isn't right', follow your instincts. Hang in there and let us know how she's doing.

Re: Liver? Please help!!!

No my daughter is not on any medication other than about 2 vicodin a month at the most for pain from adhesions. Her prior surgeries were at 10- meckels diverticulum with a meckels band, lost 3 feet of intestines, had her appendix out at the same time, then the other surgeries were from adhesions from the very first surgery. She is very athletic and just pushes past the pain. She has had pain for awhile but every time i take her in and they run thousands of test it never shows anything if its adhesions, it has been 3 years since her last surgery. She says this is not adhesion pain, totally different, she is not on any meds. I actually just went to a health fair for $30 and had the blood done to see if anything was wrong to avoid the doctor charge too. Then i had the bloodwork faxed to her pediatrician and he just doesn't seem worried. I took her last sun to a firstcare place and he said he thinks her liver is slightly enlarged and did a hepatitis test which came negative. I am trying to figure out what doctor to go to now that will run the right test, i'm afraid she is outgrowing her pediatrician. He said the low ggt and ldh is nothing to worry about, that i should only be worried if they were high along with the high biliruben. My daughter is so tired all the time and is having trouble finishing homework and just about everything, this is so unlike her, she is quite the go-getter. She is about to start her soccer season of training 4 hours a day, i don't know how she will do it. She had a mono test last year and it was negative. Thanks so much for all the replies. Cathy
