| Giant Hemangioma and Possible Liver Resection
Hi! I have been following three liver hemangiomas the past two years. I stopped bcp immediately after diagnosis. However, one has continued to grow from 2.5 to 5.5 cm. It is on the posterior side of the right lobe. As of the beginning of this year, it has become symptomatic. I experience intense shoulder pain...particularly during my period and for two weeks thereafter. It is not a muscle pain...it is deep inside my shoulder, sometimes hurts on top near my shoulderblade...sometimes radiates to the back of my shoulder. My docs think that the tumor may thrombose and, due to its position, it is irritating my diaphragm, which is causing the shoulder pain. In addition, it hurts to take a deep breath sometimes. My liver docs told me that when a hemangioma becomes symptomatic, it is up to me and my quality of life on what to do about it. I am considering having it taken out. In addition, in a couple of years, I'd like to have a baby. My OB/GYN told me that pregnancy would be contraindicated for someone with only half a liver and certainly contraindicated in my present situation with it growing. He also thinks resection is a pretty risky procedure for an othewise healthy person. He wants me to talk to a perinatologist regarding my consideration of pregnancy after a right lobectomy. Does anyone out there have information regarding their recovery from a liver resection and what to expect? Any complications? Any info regarding a laparascopic liver resection? Has anyone had a pregnancy after a liver resection? Any info would be appreciated.
