Question Need Info and help...a cyst and a hemangioma on my Liver???

Hi there,

This is a weird thing to find out on my own, but I have been on WC for a long time and I had a CT scan done in Feb. for my colon. I was never told about this stuff in Jan 2005, or Feb 2007, but yet it says in their report from Feb to follow up with my doc!!!

I was going through all my medical records that workers comp sent me and the CT scan results and report were in the file. I actually had the scan because of severe constipation from all the pain meds I was prescribed for my arm and nerve injuries.

Anyway in the report it says that there is Low density lesion in the dome of the liver, stable from a previous CT I had in Jan 2005 (never told about at that time in 2005) likely representing a benign cyst.

There is a 5.5 X 4.0 cm mass arising from the left lobe of the liver that is stable from a previous CT scan Jan 2005, that has a low desity central portion and peripherial nodular contrast enhancement, likely representing a bengin hemangioma.

At the end of the report it says that I was to follow up with my regular Doc for other testing but I was never told about this mass in Feb. when the CT scan was done.

Is this something to be alarmed about???
Is this sized hemangioma considered large and at risk for rupture??

I have suffered from problems with my colon and chronic constipation in the past and present.

I also am a recovering drug addict and alcoholic, but more a drug user than drinker. I am sober now for 3 years and before that I had almost 4 years and relapsed for about 60 days and that was enough for me.

So all together I have been in pretty good health except for a thyroid problem, and then of course all the surgeries on my arm.

I just called the Doc and they are having me come in tomorrow at 2:00.
They put me in kinda fast so I am a bit concerned.

Any input and advise????? What should I ask my regular DOc????

Re: Need Info and help...a cyst and a hemangioma on my Liver???

wow chrissy, like you needed this too?i would most certainly track down whoever your doc was at the time and have a chat about why you were never ever told about a real finding on your own report.this is the biggest reason i obtain ALL copies of all my testing reports and get all my medical records updated regularly.some docs just do not even bother to tell you what in the heck was even found inside your own body.its a pretty sick thing to do to patients but it keeps happening.just keep getting all and every document from anyone who touches you or tests you for anything at all.i have all my medical records in my own possession after a stupid nurse never told told me about crucial info on my MRI.its the only way to know for certain that you are actually being told EVERYTHING about you.

a hemangioma is actually just a venous glob of blood vessles.they are not usually a huge deal unless, like me, you happened to have one show up inside of your spinal cord.i don't recommend it.that probably isn't going to be a real huge issue for you,i would be more concerned about just what that actual "cyst" is all about.that too may not be a huge deal either.while hemangiomas can bleed at times it is not a huge thing,it is more of an ooze?not pumping like with an arterial type of lesion would be at all.i actually had two bleeds inside mine in my cord, which wouldn't have been a big issue if it were even insode my brain.the cord has no room for expansion and i was told by my NS that anymore bleeds there would close off all the remaining cordspace i had left and i stood a very high risk with that next one that it would paralyze me,so i nded up having to have him remove it.now THAT was fun.your angioma has most likely already bled at some point,it could be why it is as large as it is.they would be able to tell if that were the case tho with a bit more testing.they can actually bled within themselves or outside the angioma as well.i am sure your doc will refer you to a GI doc for further evaluation on what this actually means for you.you may have to wait a bit to get the whole skinny on this.all in all, there are realistically much worse things that could have been found inside your liver.i wish you luck chrissy, please keep me posted on just what you find out,K? marcia

Re: Need Info and help...a cyst and a hemangioma on my Liver???

Thanks for posting Feelbad!!

I appreciate it.

Yes I have a whole slew of things going on at one time and my Insurance is going to change on the 23 of this month so the liver thing could be considered a pre existing thing. I have insurance through the colleg I attend so they can do that pre existing thing but some Insurance is better than none.

I actually already have a GI doc because I have had problems in the past with my colon.

I am a bit overwhelmed with stuff this morning, but I am just taking it easy and not getting into the results.

In about a half hour I am having an evaluation to figure out the % of permanent disability I am going to have for my arm for my work comp injury so this issue is coming to an end...thank God!!

Then later I go back to my regular Doc about my neck and bulging disc issues from the car accident because I am still having a lot of pain and at that time we will be discussing what was found on my Liver as well.

So I just gotta remember to BREATHE and take it all in stride.

I am in a lot of pain with my neck toady but I still have to move forward with everything else.

Thanks for the support I will post later with whatever the doc decides to do.
The CT scan report from that day at the ER says to follow up with an ultrasound MRI or another CT with contrast. so we shall see.
Chrissy

life can really hit us HARD sometimes, but you DO handle it and you DO get thru it all somehow.believe me,you wouldn't believe what has happened in my and my sons life since 99.what doesn't kill you makes you stronger.it IS very true.you find out just how much strength you had all along but just never had to tap into it before.you have it chrissy, really.you will get thru this just dandy.having a good support system helps tons.please let me know what you find out. hang in there, there IS a bit of light at the end of that tunnel, you just focus on that.what was found in your liver really doesn't sound progressive in nature so thats a good thing,K?just let me know.marcia

Re: Need Info and help...a cyst and a hemangioma on my Liver???

Thanks Marcia,

You know I do have a bunch of things as far as health going on right now such as the liver thing, the permanent damage and chronic pain from all the surgeries on my arm, the recent neck and bulging discs from the car accident, thyroid issues....etc

But in all actuallity...I have an awesome life that is rich with so many gifts!!!

I will be 3 years clean and sober in a few weeks, I have a wonderful family that loves and supports me, and I have everything that I need.

This life I have is such a wonderful gift!!!

It takes much practice to take things in stride...LOL I am practicing all the time.
FEAR is the one thing that can really get me bound up if I let it.

Other than all that stuff going on I am doing well. School will start on the 27th of this month. I am excited about that and next week, my last free week before school my Mom and I are going out of town to the Eastern side of the Seirra's to take photos and go fishing.

So I am excited to go back to school and to go on a trip with my Mom.

It is concerning to me about the things in my liver, but I don't have to let the concern to to excessive worry...I will get the tests done and go from there.

I suspect that it has not grown since it had not grown any in 2 years but we will see.
I will post a thred to let you know what the results say.....
Thanks again for the support
Chrissy
