| Re: elevated Liver ezymes
Last month I had a really bad gallbladder attack. After being seen at the ER, I was told that it needed to be removed ASAP. So, I had surgery last Friday, Sept. 14.
Prior to surgery, my surgeon told me that my liver enzymes were very high. She said that the numbers were in the thousands, if that makes sense. She wanted to do an MRI at first but I have a morphine pump and a spinal cord stimulator implant, so this was not possible. She then tried to schedule a G.I. doctor to do a scope first so that he could check the duct area but this was not possible either.
So we stuck with her original plan to remove my gallbladder. Once she got in there things changed. She ended up doing a biopsy on my liver and I was sent home with a drain in the middle of my chest. The drain must stay in for 2-3 weeks to prevent infection. I guess the surgery took longer than normal because I was also losing blood. Now I am waiting to find out the results.
I'm 41 yrs old and I don't smoke or drink but I don't think that really matters because you can still have problems with your liver. Does anyone know why a biopsy is done when enzymes are messed up?........Regards, Marie
