About 10 years ago, I had induced hepatits from Tylenol. I went to the hospital and was treated with no complications. Thank god. Ten years later, I would say that I am a social drinker, and must admit that sometimes binge over the weekends, but this is all. I have decided to quit drinking all together, but feel that it maybe too late.
Over the years I remained under constant care of my doctor and have had my blood test check and it was always normal. In February I had a sonagram to check for gallstones, and it was normal, the doctor never said anything about my liver.
I have never had abnormal blood tests except from the incident 10 years ago. Now, I have symptoms of Liver Disease, such as red palms, ascites and pain on my right side. I am not nauseated nor do I suffer from fatigue, and never have had Jaundice, as a matter of fact except for the above symptoms I feel great. I do not have any problem sleeping, that is regulated. I am worried I may be suffering from liver disease. I have a doctors appointment on Wednesday and I am going to request he sends me to a specialist. Am I over worrying? Anybody out there with advice please help.
just so you know, there realiatically could be a ton of other reasons for your symptoms that do not have to do with the liver.i think the liver was just for first thought considering the history.this could be some sort of a GI issue without it having to be connected in any real way to your liver,or it could be other things too.the only real way you are going to know for certain is when you see your doc for blood work.getting an ultrasound wouldn't hurt either.not all liver issues,or kidney for that matter, will actually show themselves within bloodwork alone til a certain 'magic' level of damage actually occurs and the levels get high enought to actually be detected.i have both liver and kidney disease and have absolutely no signs of either yet(thank god) in any of my bloodwork, but my ultrasounds show a totally different story.
quitting drinking is a really great idea and i commend you on doing this for yourself.alcohol does eventually take its toll on the liver and other organs too.getting rid of that is a big step forward and i m sure your liver is doing a big happy dance right now too.tho the waiting sucks, believe me i DO know, you will unfortunetly have to wait and see what if anything may or may not pop up.hopefully all is well and this is just a digestive issue such as IBS or something.alot of people suffer with IBS.i wish you luck with the liver thing and hope everything is still okay in there.
just an FYI for you but when it comes to actually getting jaundice?it may or may not be there right away as an actual sign of what could be really significant liver issues.when my son was actually Dxed with having only 20% of his actual liver function left,he still had NO signs of jaundice yet.that did not actually start showing itself til about two months later and that was when his pancreatitis also presented itself.i was a bit amazed myself as i had always assumed that liver problems and jaundice just went hand in hand, not so.it all depends really on just what actual areas of the liver are being affected as to when jaundice actually shows itself.just some info for you.i never knew that til it happened to my son.please let me know how things go,K? good luck,Marcia
My dad never had any jaundice with his liver disease. Never showed yellow or any other signs. He was a heavy drinker for many years. Once DX he stopped drinking, but of course as we all know once your liver is sooo badly damaged from drinking it is usually too late. My dad got a very good doctor who advised us on what to take, and what to do. He has been in coma several times from his body becoming toxic.
End stage liver disease is an ugly thing. We were told that every other problem my dad has had over the years even though they may not be liver...is directly BECAUSE of the liver. Kidney problem, digestive problems, hernias, even type II diabetes. Result of liver failure. My dad has been in end stage liver for about 3 years now. Is he healthy? No. But there are days that he still gets out and enjoys life. So far, he has more good days than bad.
He had surgery on his intestines a couple yrs ago because of a kink that developed. Nothing to do with the liver? Yes. Why? I dont know. They gave him 20% chance of living through surgery.....0% without it. He survived. He is a fighter. I know one day this will get him. We do everything our doc tells us, and he hasn't had a thing to drink in yrs. He now has a hernia (his second) and a blood clot close to his liver. We go back in a couple of weeks, to see what we need to do next. He is tired a lot, but hasn't gone toxic in a few months now.
so sorry about your dad mileena.i am just wondering tho,did they ever mention anything about a possible liver transplant?would that be an option?i know my son went thru the very same hell your dad is dealing with, everything was being affected all at one time oretty much.but the liver transplant he recieved in june 2000 saved his life.he was down to only having about three days left when they placed him at status one at the national level and miraculously we got the "call' the very next morning.it was a true miracle,no one gets a needed liver that quickly.i was just awed at seeing the total difference in him even after only having the new liver for just one day, even the first few hours with it his color came back to his cheeks(a lovely shade of pink) and he just "looked' healthier.but he was listed as 'grave" when that actually occured.i would think that your dad would be more than qualified to be on the list at this point and actually stand a good chance at obtaining one.even doing the live donor is an option for most.we were going to do this with my hubby as the donor but my son ended up needing much more liver than my husband could safely give.that was a major blow.but he ended up getting that wonderful gift and i am truely grateful to the family who chose to save lives and donated their daughters organs to others.i am just wondering if this was ever discussed as an option and what the decision was?marcia
