Does anyone have a list of tests to determine liver problems. I have had blood tests, colonoscopys, EGD, small bowel series, ultrasound, MRI, liver biopsy, camera endoscopy and so far they cannot find the problem of the elevated liver enzymes. Can you think of any tests I have missed. I am going to a new doctor soon and was just curious if my previous doctor missed a test.

Hi Joanie,

I don't have a list of tests but I do have elevated enzymes as well. It was found during my pre-op tests. I just had my gallbladder removed last Friday and while she was in there, she did a liver biopsy.

My blood tests also mentioned something about a fatty liver. I am 41 yrs old and I have never been a smoker or drinker. I was curious if any of your tests mentioned a fatty liver?

No fatty liver for me according to all the tests I have had. They just don't know.

After all those tests I can tell you that your liver would appear to be just fine. There are no other tests I'm aware of that could be done. Usually with elevated enzymes, imaging would be done, which you did, and a diagnosis via biopsy would be done only to confirm disease and at what stage. Which you also did. How elevated are your levels and are they all elevated?

My latest labs are from 9-10-07 Alkaline Phosphatase is 166, Ast is 70 and Alt is 79. My previous lab from 7-18-07 shows my Alkaline Phosphatase as 208, Ast 78 and my Alt 151. I am hoping they came down from me taking the milk thistle. I just wish I knew what was causing them to elevate. Thank you Eric and Marie for replying.
