My brother in law is in trouble, has legs like tree trunks, his stomach is bigger than a pregnant women, and he glows in the dark he is so yellow. He was in the hospital for 2 days and they sent him home. His kids said the Dr said he is all done. Does anyone have a solution, or is it too late. He has cirrhosis of the liver, just found out a few weeks ago. Was a heavy drinker but stopped for 26 years and went back to drinking a year ago.

what have they said about transplant?if he is only having 2% of his liver functioning at this point,he would be fairly high up on the Tx list if he is actually on there at all yet?what have you been told about his overall condition or chances of successful Tx?there is always a live donor option too in certain circumstances when a whole liver is not actually needed.if his billiary tree is okay then they can do a live donor from a family memebr where they only donate a lobe?is he suffering from portal hypertension at all or did they correct that withthe TIPS procedure?knowing some better info from you would really help to help you.Marcia

Thanks so much for responding, his doctor has written him off, and it is sad. He is a great guy. He is so bloated up and yellow. He has an appointment with a specialist on the l4th of this month. He only got that appt by a friend helping out. I just hope he makes it that long, his speech is so slurred and slow. He asked the doctor if there was a way to get rid of the fluid and he said if he did it would come right back. His kids offered him a piece of thier liver. He lives in CT and they don't help much for alcoholics, but he is not drinking now. All input appreciated.

Being sober for 26 years and then developing cirrhosis after starting again is really weird.

Wow. It seems like we are in the exact same situation. The same thing is going on with my aunt. It seems very hopeless. Could you maybe fill me in on how his doctor appointment goes, if they say there is anything that can be done? Thanks ahead of time, I hope everything goes well for him.
