Liver cell Adenoma

Juliet,
Thank you for the good wishes. We will be leaving in an hour, surgery is at 1:45 EST. I am feeling very calm right now, I now I have many people praying for me. I will let everyone know, via my daughter how things go.
Please keep asking questions, my doctor, he is the director of the liver transplant unit here in Cincinnati, OH said that yes, 10-15% of Adenomas will turn malignant in 10-15 years, and they can rupture so be your own doctor and don't give up.
Nessie, I am sending peaceful thoughts your way for your weekend ahead.

Katie

Re: Liver cell Adenoma

UPDATES!!

Hii all, this is KT's daughter Kayla...
Early results!

We came into surgery this morning, mom (kt) was in excellent spirits and was very calm. This was helped largely by the fact that everyone at the hospital was very kind and very helpful.
We started into the pre-op stuff, her doctors started to come in to take her information and I thought I was funny... I tried convincing one that she had a cocaine addiction.
They started her on her IV's, and then we were asked to the waiting room. Our first update came when they doctors let us know they began the surgery at 2:09. We were all prepared to wait... Until about an hour later we recieved a second call to meet with the doctor.
He gave us the WONDERFUL news that rather than an adenoma that absolutely HAD to be removed, they used the 2 tiny incisions to take her biopsy.. and after all this time, it was a simple FNH (Focal Nodule Hyperplasia) that was going to be left in! Kt will be coming home today, and is doing great! I just saw her about an hour ago after surgery, I came home ahead of her. She is so so so excited that it wasn't the major surgery we have been preparing for.
Thank you so much for all of your prayers, I'll keep you posted at my mom's request.
Thank you again!

-Kayla (Kt's kid)

hi my name is prudy, on jan. 8th i had a partial liver resection for fnh and adenoma. i was very scared going into surgery but it had to be done. im still healing. i still have alot of pain. the adenoma that i have takes up the whole back side of my liver .they were not able to see this on the scan . when they opened me up thats when they discovered it . originally , i was having a lesion (fnh) removed. its size was 6.0cmx 6.5cm x6.1cm.i have to go back every 3 months for pics to see if its grown. if it has they are going to do another procedure where they go up thruogh mypelvis region to cut off the blood supply to the adenoma . they do this with metal coils. my doctor is very confident and says that as long as shes treating me it will never turn malignant. shes a very well respected oncologist , so i guess im in good hands. thoughts are with you and good luck

Re: Liver cell Adenoma

hello again

kt - wow so pleased mate !!!!! after all we have been discussing im just so happy for you . please post when well enough so we can catch up . our prayers were answered by the sounds of it.
I had a terrible day yesterday, i cried all day at my last day at work. i recd so many lovely emails from my work friends. We had a bit of a buffet going on in the office which was lovely as i was so hung over the day before and never ate much. Wed night me and 30 friends went outI havent drank for 4 months so it didnt take much to get me merry!! i ended up being sick all night then .so touched by everyones kind words i feel kinda lost today. Going in on tues - op on wed all being well! so glad for you mate , as you know mine is 7cm FNH but as i have symptoms i have decided to get it out! take care

Hi prudy - welcome to the post!! I have been posting on our old site fnh and adenoma. so nice to hear from someone that has had a resection done. i am very scared right now - 3 days to go and so frightened of the "what ifs". Were you very aware of your surroundings when you woke up ? did you have to go to intensive care? did you have those gross nasal tubes? how long were you in for ?? sounds like the oncologist you are seeing knows her stuff so thats great for you . keep in touch any info on surgery would be great .

juliet - hi there , not sure about the blood transfusions , or the presice location of mine. they first said it was "hanging off" the right lobe then later discovered it was a lot higher up so not sure . I too get very breathless and have back pain . I am fairly fit young slim and healthy so its a bit wierd.

take care my brave ladies- wish me luck for wed !!

nessie
