hello mto anyone who can help me my husbands been recently diagnosed with chirrosis and he so full of fluid and his doctor as just given him spinolactone but nothing is happening yet,how long does ittake to start working.He has given up the drink so is his outcome good,hope someone can help me im worried sick,thanks

sorry no one answered. i would have replied sooner but i've been gone.
fluid is a hard battle when they start to progress with this disease. my husband is on spirolactone and lasix. pretty high doses too. he still has fluid really bad. he only has 6 cups fluid a day and low salt intake. they are talking about draining the fluid off soon.... wonder what that's like? hope the meds have worked by now for your hubby. good luck.

hi iluvwv thanks a lot for that its really hard isnt it, my husbands got a belly bigger than whn i was pregnant ill tell him to cut his outtake on fluids down hes on spirolactone but only 1 a day and it doesnt seem to be doing anything,his your husband itching all the time its driving him crazy iv brought him some antihistamines cus the doctor didnt give him any will this help? mind you hes stopped drinking so i hope this is the way forward speak to you soon

Yes. it is really hard and when i think it can't get any worse, it does.
The gold bond medicated lotion helped my hubby the most with the itching, he's kinda got over that for some reason.
They will probably put your husband on lasix next... since the other is not working. meds are really bad for the liver, any time it warns of liver damage don't let him take it without checking with your gastroenterologist or whoever your liver dr is. you don't want this to get any worse. if they think the outlook is good then he needs to take very good care of his liver. if my hubby had quit drinking when they first told him he had cirrhosis i don't think we would be in this situation.
