Liver Biopsy Stay In Hospital - Liver & Pancreas Disorders Message Board

How long do you stay in hospital for the biopsy. Have been told over night and just for a few hours...
Also do you get "put out " for it?

I had a liver needle biopsy in my doctor's office and left after a few hours. And, I was not put under. If a radiologist does it you are typically admitted as an outpatient and can have sedation which will require a longer stay.

I was at the hospital for about 8 hours and I was awake for the biopsy as you have to follow instructions on the way you breathe. After it you have to lay on your side for several hours to make sure you don't bleed. It was really not painful. I just was eager to eat and I had to wait for a while after it!
